Still about MS outlook?
January 12th, 2010 | by admin |I could not open MS outlook and the message says "cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\document & setting\administrator\local setting\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst. quit outlook and all mail enabled application, and then use the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair error in the file. I’ve done the scanpst.exe but still the sam message came up.
I would remove the PST from the equation. If the issue is the PST then go to the directory, and move it to another location. If the issue is the PST then Outlook will start up and complain it is not there. You can always reintegrate the data if it is not completely blown. If that fails I would grab your office disk and do repair on outlook. Note if you do this make sure to do the updates again after as the thing will be out of date.

One of your files is corrupted, so you will need to uninstall and reinstall. You can go to the windows site and download it again for free under Internet Explorer Tools.

first, make a backup because it sounds like your hard drive might be failing. after you do that(hopefully it will be successful) run chkdsk /r. it will ask you if you want to run it at your next boot because it can’t lock the drive. tell it yes, and reboot. this will go through your entire disk and try to recover bad blocks. if it’s just a few bad sectors on the drive or mostly file system errors rather than hardware errors you should be fine. if not, you might have to pay someone for professional pst file recovery.
