Very interesting. I do not doubt that was your experience. Sorry to hear of it. What year was show? Van is a perfectionist to his art. I can’t imagine him going on stage & discrediting himself. May have been drunk, as Dylan has been known to do . Van always mumbles his lyrics – belting out notes like a sax. He is not known for forgetting his words….unless he was changing them as Dylan often does….Anyhow…Van is a true great. Sorry the show you saw sucked.

@gtrrobster Van …
@gtrrobster Van Morrison was a major disappointment,want we hear was no great hits concert. This was a demand your money back performance! unrehearsed,uncoordinated,disorganized. No beer policy that we were informed of only after we purchased the tickets. We needed a drink to sit thought an old man mumbling and forgetting his lyrics! I can do without the EGO

I have a bunch of live VM tapes from 70s-90s, and they all sound excellent. And we just saw him last week (MAy ‘10) And it was perfecto…just curious

This is the first interview I’ve ever seen of Van, despite listening to his music for many years. He can be difficult, but I don’t find him to be an ass.

The music business …
The music business is filled with vipers, and it seems he got bitten one too many times. Also, I normally have little sympathy for famous people who grouse about their fame; it is rarely something that comes to a person without being sought. In Van’s case, though, it is possible that he was just so talented that the music just had to come out of him, and people were going to respond. Then he got caught up in the industry machine. I don’t know. Thank God I’m not famous.

I remember the time …
I remember the time he was on tour with Candy Dulfer that must have been mid 90s and even then everybody warned me to see his show because he was mean and always drunk on stage. So if you don’t want to spoil the experience of his great and genius music – keep away from his shows and don’t watch interviews. …

He reminds me of my …
He reminds me of my dad — a lot of “old man” attitudes, more in touch with his past than our present, like: “there’s nothing new, it’s all been done before.” Give the guy a break, ya know? He has given us a lot of wonderful music. I’d say, let that speak for him, the best way to know him, his true voice.
