Discussing Rosalind Creasy’s book–The Complete Book of Edible Landscaping.
It’s possible to grow tea wherever Camellias grow. You can harvest and prepare your own green or black tea.
Tea, unlike dandelion coffee, has a good kick of caffeine!

I thought i should remark that, since Jasmine-scented tea is very popular, nowadays, that growing jasmine might be a nice idea, too. Problem is, though, that many toxic plants are called “Jasmine” or “Jessamine”. So do your research and plenty of cross-referring. Wikipedia has lots of info, there, too, on this…

Well, I once read–in a camellia book– that the exploitative British were tricked by the Chinese, who weren’t stupid, either. They substituted camellia plants instead of tea plants in the consignment. They are inferior and don’t taste so good. But that was how the British upper classes ended up loving and cultivating camellias, for beauty, instead of growing their own tea. Good luck with your coffee shop endeavours. I am not a toxicologist, but I find Wikipedia often is very useful.

Thanks for this. I’m going grow some tea in my coffee shop. Is it just the species sinensis that should be used, or the whole genus Camellias?
