Over the last 2 weeks emails have been sent out with a link to a virus website to all my YAHOO address book?

March 7th, 2010 | by admin |

Emails keep getting sent from my yahoo email address to MOST not ALL contacts in yahoo address book, This has happened about 4 times now and each time there is a link that takes you to a virus website. Some of the people (as they know me) have clicked on the link and now got a virus. I DID NOT Send this email and it doesnt show in my sent folder.
People keep ringing me up asking whats going on?
I HAVE CHANGED MY PASSWORD a few times and also scanned the computers i used for Viruses and also SPYWARE!
This needs sorting out as people keep ringing me and also emailing me, saying to stop sending emails! When this is not ME!
I dont really want to change my email address?? and i also HAVE NOT GIVEN OUT MY USER NAME AND PASSWORD!

Your computer has been infected and the virus is using your address book to reproduce. As you are all ready infected, changing your password will do nothing to stop it.
First, you need to clean your computer of the bug or ‘bugs.’
Then, install a good firewall and an anti-virus program, if you do not already have them. I also strongly recommend a program for malware and adware.
Finally, change your E-mail address by opening another account and informing all your contacts of it. It is a pain, but the only recourse.

This has happened because you gave your email address and password to another website which was then able to gain access to your address book. As you have changed your email password, there is not much else you can do about it except tell your contacts to ignore these emails and mark them as spam.

Never ever give out your email password which should only ever be typed in the box when signing into your email account. If you are ever asked to give your email password anywhere else it is a scam.
